Front Cover Draft 1
After my interview with a group of my demographic I decided to make changes to my front cover, taking into account their suggestions. Before I did this I researched other pop-magazines, such as Billboard, to see what conventions they used. I noticed that they rarely had a plain white background, they had either black, pastel or pale colours. I knew that I couldn't use black as I knew it wouldn't work with my models dark hair. I also knew that any pastel colour would clash with my (soon-to-be) pink masthead, therefore I chose pale grey, as it wouldn't clash and went well with the greys in my models dress. I then changed my colour scheme to pink, yellow and white (rather than the dark red, black and yellow I had before) which straight away made a huge change the the look of my magazine, and made the genre a lot clearer. Pop-Music is quite innocent (compared to music such as rap and rock) and therefore using softer colours makes a lot more sense. I changed my masthead to pink, as suggested, which I agree looks so much better as suits the genre better too. I then moved my writing so that there wasn't anything on, or near too my models fact so attention wasn't taken away from her. I also changed my fonts to ones that better suit the look of my magazine (Albertus and Orator STD) I also made Aaliyah's name much bigger, which was another convention I noticed from Billboard. Although at this stage my front cover is a long way away from being complete, it's definitely now starting to look like a pop magazine.
